Innovations by Rochford Thompson have fundamentally improved border control technology, check-in desk efficiency and ticket fraud / theft detection.

Rochford Thompson has provided passport and other document readers, based on optical, magnetic and RF reading technology, for airlines; cruise lines; border control; police and homeland security departments; and other customers, and has an intuitive understanding of the application of its technology in these markets. 

The company’s strategy is to make an up-front investment in tooling, where possible, and to design products from the outset to meet the requirements of mass production.  This is more cost effective for customers. 

Rochford Thompson is focused on one key product area – passport readers.  It is a specialist company, dedicated to achieving world class technical performance in its core product area.  It does not have a fragmented product range to distract its management team.

The guiding principle behind Rochford Thompson’s design and manufacturing strategies is that products should minimise component count, minimise moving parts and hinges, and maximise the use of cost-effective technologies such as injection moulding.  This all contributes to product longevity and durability.
